THE AMERICAN CRAFT BEER – QUICK HITS

We blame the industry for this… It used to be that when we wrapped up our Weekend Picks on Friday, we could coast through the weekend. But clearly all that’s changed. So here’s some of what’s happened in the world of craft beer while you were off enjoying yourself.

, THE AMERICAN CRAFT BEER – QUICK HITSDemands Of Crazed Hopheads Leads To Record Breaking Hop Acreage (Moxee, WA) – According to the Hop Growers of America, the nation’s hop acreage has jumped an astounding 18.5% in 2016. This marks a total of 53,213 acres planted – an all-time high, but ACB’s Tom Bobak remains worried that “this record-breaking hop production may not be enough to keep America’s dangerous hophead community at bay.” You can never produce enough hops to please these people,” Bobak stressed. They’re an IBU-driven shells of their former selves and no amount of clinical intervention is going to keep them from their hops!”

Shocker! Texas Judge Does The Right Thing (Austin, TX) – A District Court judge in Austin has reportedly decided that a 2013 law which had made it illegal for the state’s craft brewers to sell territorial rights to distribute their beers, was in fact unconstitutional, and has been thankfully overturned.

Words To Drink By (Milton, DE) – “There are more old drunks than there are old doctors.”

                                                        Willie Nelson – American Musician

How About A Beer With Haircut? (Sacramento, CA) – As in other parts of the country, many California-based beauty salons and barbershops occasionally offer alcoholic beverages to clients (along with their haircuts) free of charge. But what , THE AMERICAN CRAFT BEER – QUICK HITSmany don’t know is that that simple act of hospitality was actually illegal – but that could be changing soon. Because last week the State Assembly voted 79-0 Monday to legalize the practice, according to The Mercury News.

Beer Products We Like (Washington, DC) – We received an award-winning Wide Mouth 64 oz. Growler from Hydro Flask recently and we told them that we’d give it a run (and if we liked it) we’d share it with you. Over the weekend, we went camping and we filled their growler with a fresh India Pale Lager from Atlas Brew Works to take up into the Shenandoah Mountains. 12 hours later we opened the Hydro Flask Wide Mouth for the first time and amazingly the beer was as fresh as when we filled it and nearly as cold. Very cool…
