ACB Sports Presents: NFL Playoffs, Conference Championships

This is the greatest weekend that’s ever happened in the NFL. That may be a bit of hyperbole, but let’s get this straight: it is the best weekend this season will see. Two of the best rivalries ignite in the games that decide who will play for all of the marbles: the two future hall-of-fame QBs, both with rings, both with stats, both with something to prove against each other; two young QBs, playing for division rivals that would want nothing than to watch the other burn. This is the NFL Conference Championships.

3:00 p.m. ET — New England Patriots at Denver Broncos

This year was special, as we saw Manning go completely bonkers on the field, and Brady scrape and claw his way into the playoffs – a complete role reversal. And guess what? They both finally have run games. But this game is going to come down to one thing: whose defense can hold up longer.

They are so close, and with the power of the Broncos offense and the home field advantage, we would normally pick them to win, especially with the injuries to the Patriots defense. But in our right mind, we can’t root for the Broncos after QB Peyton Manning requested a Bud Light last week post-game.

Sorry Peyton, but you have hurt us. You have hurt us badly.

Prediction:

New England 38, Denver 31

6:30 p.m. ET — San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks

This game is tough for me to discuss. As mentioned a couple weeks ago, I am a lifelong Seattelite, and as such have bled blue and grey for my entire life (yes, there was no neon green then). That’s why this is so tough. My hatred of the Niners goes deep – so deep, I have no real reason to actually hate them.

That’s what this game is: a heated team rivalry. This is the game that everyone wanted to see, especially after the regular season matchups. Now they meet in the NFC Championship game, with the winner representing the NFC West in the game’s largest matchup. The tale of the tape:

  1. The Seahawks’ passing game has been anemic of late (103 yards last week).
  2. The 49ers’ passing game hasn’t been great either (196 yards last week), but is improved with Crabtree.
  3. The Seahawks may not have Percy Harvin.
  4. The 49ers have Crabtree back at a very high level.
  5. The Seahawks are at home.
  6. The 49ers have been outscored 71-16 in Seattle over the last two seasons.
  7. Marshawn Lynch has the 49ers number putting up 384 yards against them in their last 4 meetings.
  8. Kaepernick has never been able to run against Seattle, has never thrown more than 180 yards against them, threw 3 interceptions against them in week 2, and seems to think Seahawks CB Richard Sherman is his receiver.
  9. The Seahawks are 16-1 at home under Wilson.
  10. Frank Gore has a grand total of 44 yards rushing in the two games in Seattle.
  11. Seattle has much better beer than San Francisco.
  12. San Francisco Sucks

Prediction:

Seattle 30, San Francisco 17
