6 “Not Normal” Holiday Craft Beers

Christmas and Hanukkah are almost here…and we’ve been celebrating the traditional holiday beers you need to be drinking this season. But we’ve a number of “unlikely” seasonal suggestions for you as well because we know you’ll be drinking…

, 6 “Not Normal” Holiday Craft BeersA Time For Jewbelation (Clifton Park, NY) – With Hanukkah beginning on Christmas Eve this year, it only seems appropriate that we lead with two special “not normal” beers from Shmaltz because no brewery does this holiday better.

Hanukkah, Chanukah: Pass The Beer – This is their classic, an 8% ABV dark winter seasonal they’ve been brewing for more than 8 years with 8 malts and 8 hops.

Hanukkah Beer – New this year, this directly named holiday seasonal is a Golden Strong Ale brewed with chocolate to keep things festive!

Holly Daze (Munster, IN) – Hey, we’ve come to expect the unexpected from 3 Floyds crew and they never disappoint. Brewed using Mexican sugar and English chocolate malt 3 Floyds Alpha Klaus is an insanely delicious 6% ABV holiday Porter that’s pumped out of its mind with loads and loads of hops. Deep, dark and unapologetic this is the perfect beer to drink when you’re re-watching Bad Santa II with your friends.

, 6 “Not Normal” Holiday Craft BeersA Michigan Christmas Ale (Kalamazoo, MI) – A welcome departure from all those cloyingly sweet winter warmers that dominate at this time of year, Bell’s Brewery opts for sessionability over octane. Bell’s Christmas Ale is a low-octane 5.5% ABV Scottish Ale (they have Christmas too!), that lets the Michigan-grown barley do the talking and thankfully forgoes the obvious seasonal spices.

Deep, Dark, Naughty And Nice (San Marcos, CA) – Amusingly named and unusual in its audacious normality, Port Brewing’s Christmas beer sells out almost as quickly as it hits the shelves! A comfortable alternative to Aunt Betty’s fruitcake, Santa’s Little Helper is their 10% Imperial Stout with super-dark cocoa and rich roasted coffee aromatics and ends with a wisp of hops. If given a choice between Port Brewing’s nuanced winter offering and Uncle Elmer’s peanut fruitcake – it’s not even close

, 6 “Not Normal” Holiday Craft Beers9 Ladies Dancing ( Orange County, CA ) – The 9th beer in The Bruery’s brilliant 12 Days of Christmas Series, this 2016 release is anything but normal and we’re just fine with that.. A cacophony of vanilla, chocolate and coffee tones 9 Ladies Dancing is MASSIVE 11.3% ABV Strong Ale that was brewed to mimic the classic Italian dessert tiramisu.
