candy, 5 ‘After Halloween’ Craft Beer & Candy Pairings

It’s like clockwork and it happens every year. Halloween passes and you’ve still at least half of that Costco bag of trick-or-treat candy laying around the house…What to do?

You seldom smoke pot anymore, so you probably won’t be needing them for a late-night munchie fix. But why not a post-Halloween candy and craft beer pairing?

And we can help you with that.

Tootsie Rolls and Arrogant Bastard Alecandy, 5 ‘After Halloween’ Craft Beer & Candy Pairings

Great beers and classic candies can become overly familiar over time and get unfairly overlooked …And that goes for both the American Tootsie Roll (first launched in 1896) and Stone Brewing’s Arrogant Bastard (1996?).

So now’s the time to bring them both together in a stylish pairing celebration of two classics, that clearly complement one another, and more than deserve their due. For extra heft consider the Double Bastard Ale and add additional Tootsie Rolls as neeeded.

Hefeweizens and Candy Corn

The Hefeweizen has have been making a comeback of late and unfortunately all that candy corn you found at the bottom of you trick-or-treat bag never goes away.

But the good news is that these unavoidable corn syrup masterpieces pair brilliantly with Live Oak’s  Hefeweizen with its welcome banana and clove notes.

Some candy and craft beer pairing aficionados suggest marinating the candy corn in the wheat ale for 24 hours and then snorting it. But we’re not sure you want to go there.

Peanut M&M’s and Russian Imperial Stoutscandy, 5 ‘After Halloween’ Craft Beer & Candy Pairings

If you’re a seasoned craft beer and candy enthusiast you already know that a serious Russian Imperial Stout enjoyed with fresh Peanut M&M’s is a marriage made in heaven.

And not surprisingly we’ve also found that most stouts pair fantastically with even more stouts.

Looking to Russian Imperials, we’re big fans of Firestone Walker’s Parabola. But when it comes to Peanut M&M’s accept no substitutes.

Lambics and Skittles

Lambics pair best with tart and fruity candy like Skittles. But SweeTarts and Jolly Ranchers will also do in a crunch. And we like to pair them with Allagash Coolship Red (if you can find it) and any Lambic from Cantillon will also suffice.

Important Note: Some Lambics can be extremely tart, so we strongly suggest that for optimum results, you enjoy them with a mouthful of pre-ground Skittles.

Almond Joy and Coconut Beercandy, 5 ‘After Halloween’ Craft Beer & Candy Pairings

Hershey’s Almond Joy, with its creamy coconut center and its double almond core, makes for a serious craft beer and candy opportunity…And there are a number of ways that one can go.

Maui Brewing’s Coconut Hiwa Porter, brewed with 100% hand-toasted coconut, will bring out the best in your Almond Joy and Lickinghole Creek’s Coconut Quad is an excitingly different option!
