Beer remains most the popular alcoholic beverage in the world, and is populated by multinational companies that produce beer on a scale which is almost unimaginable to most craft brewers.
Not unsurprisingly, gigantic conglomerates continue to dominate sales year-over-year in 2023 according to data collected and published by Business 2 Community (B2C).
The top 10 largest beer companies have market caps exceeding a mind-blowing $10 billion. And in spite of beer sales slowing for some of these companies in the US, it’s likely that these brewing giants will only continue to grow in 2024.
In spite of the fallout from the Bud Light Dylan Mulvaney fiasco which did impact Anheuser Busch’s US sale, the world’s largest brewer con dominated beer sales on the world stage and with a market cap of $123.15 billion. No of the other brewers in the B2C ranking even came close.
Diageo, home to Guiness stout, held a strong #2 position with a total market cap of $83.24 billion. And Heineken retained its #3 ranking with a stock value $53.29 billion in 2023.
Three Japanese brewers, Ashai, Tsingtao Brewery Group, Kirin were well represented in the 2023 Top 10 ranking.
At #4 Victor, New York-based Constellation Brands was the strongest US brewer with a market cap of $47.11 billion, thanks to its impressive portfolio of Mexican imports which they brew south of the border and distribute throughout the United States.
Interestingly enough Chicago-headquartered Molson Coors, the second largest brewer is the US, was ranked as #8 in the world, well behind the Carlberg Group (#5) a brewing company with a much more limited footprint in the states.
And China Resources Beer was listed at #7 thanks to Snow Beer, a super non-premium 5% lager, that’s sold almost exclusively in China, that remains one of the best-selling beers in the world.
