BrewDog Celebrates the End of Ohio’s ABV Limit With A History-Ending Beer

, BrewDog Celebrates the End of Ohio’s ABV Limit With A History-Ending BeerEarlier this year, Ohio legislators voted to finally lift the state’s 12% ABV limit on beer, a law that had troubled the region’s brewing community and may have been one of the reasons why Stone Brewing chose Richmond, Virginia over Columbus, Ohio for its new eastern operation.

That law (which went into effect Wednesday) was also, no doubt a key factor in BrewDog’s announced plans to build a state-side brewery in Columbus. And the irreverent Scottish brewer is now celebrating its passage with a history-ending brew, but you’ll have to invest $20,000 or more in their unique Equity for Punks USA crowdfunding model to get one.

The beer is billed as “the world’s strongest and most expensive beer” and with a $20,000 price tag for the American version they’ve definitely got the second part right.

BrewDog’s The End of History is a MASSIVE 55% ABV creation that was first brewed in 2010 with only 12 bottles being produced at that time.

The new stateside offering will be the first beer to be brewed at the Ohio location and no doubt become another beer collector’s wet dream. And once again every bottle will be packaged in a specially crafted taxidermy squirrel along with its own special certification…so there’s that.

The beer itself, whose name comes from the legendary work of political philosopher, Francis Fukuyama, is a Belgian Blonde Ale that is infused with nettles from the Scottish Highlands along with fresh juniper berries and the brewing process is arduous.

, BrewDog Celebrates the End of Ohio’s ABV Limit With A History-Ending BeerTo achieve the beer’s audacious alcohol content, BrewDog’s brewers utilize a rare freezing technique where “the beer is kept at temperatures well below freezing to separate the water from the solution.” This process, which is repeated dozens of times, eventually distills hundreds of gallons of beer in to just enough for a handful of exclusive bottles.

BrewDog describes The End of History as the perfect conceptual marriage between art, taxidermy and craft brewing (and we’ll give them that).

It’s also a perfect way to celebrate the end of Ohio’s ABV limitation, a welcome change that was long overdue.
