The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – February 8, 2013

Love is in the air. Even for those of you that believe Valentine’s Day to be a creation of the greeting card industry, you have to admit that a lot of really great events happen around this time. From beer and chocolate pairings, to fundraisers, to the start of San Francisco Beer Week…we’ve got your Weekend Picks right here.

With next week being Valentine’s Day (or as we call it: “the day you have to switch to wine…”), why not celebrate the weekend in Missouri at the Beer, Wine, Cheese and Chocolate Festival. Touted as “a unique tasting and shopping experience with over 100 types of beer, wine, cheese, and chocolate,” this may be the way to spoil your loved one and get the beer you need. Oh, and all proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. So that’s pretty cool.

Heading north of the border for a romantic weekend getaway? Hit up The 1st Annual Rhino Winter Beer Festival in Toronto on Sunday for “a mid-winter celebration of Barley Wines, Imperial Stouts, Barrel-Aged Ales and other Winter Warmers.” That should warm the heart.

If you will be spending the weekend of love in the Bay Area, check out San Francisco Beer Week, where you’ll surely find something romantic to do. Stop by SoMa StrEAT Food Park on Saturday for Picnic in the Park with Pac Brew Lab & Magnolia, or head over to Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing on Sunday for Strong Women Brew Day. With so many options, this is the gift that keeps on giving.

The Emerald City offers something sweet this weekend as Georgetown Brewing Company is putting on Beer & Chocolate for Charity at their Denver Ave. brewery. This fundraiser will have local sweets and a sneak peek at the 2013 batch of Lisa’s Chocolate Stout. What could be better?

, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – February 8, 2013Weekend Beer Pick: As we approach the day, why not choose a beer that oozes romance? Then you’ve got to check out Deep Ellum Brewing Co’s Cherry Chocolate Double Brown Stout. Deep Ellum describes it best: “We’ll play right to your heart (and palette and belly) by taking our already smooth and rich Double Brown Stout out for a night on the town. By adding real Red Tart and Dark Sweet Cherries at the beginning of fermentation and Organic/Fair Trade cocoa nibs at the end of conditioning, once a year we treat our Double Brown Stout lavishly. Don’t be a selfish lover, share this with someone special.”

Serious Film Pick: Look, if you do something nice and romantic this weekend, then you may garner a little equity for the 14th. So you should. Because that’s when A Good Day to Die Hard hits theaters. The last installment was crap, but from what we’ve heard, this may return John McClane to his previous glory.
