Today has been designated IPA Day and If ever a beer style deserved its own special day, it's the India Pale Ale. And with so many great IPAs out there (and so many variations), even attempting to come up with a definitive list might be dismissed as sheer recklessness on our part. But that's never stopped us in the past.

So here are 10 big-time IPAs that you need to try.

Zymurgy, the journal of the AHA, has just released the results - and in case you don't get the mag, we've got all the relevant news bytes for you.

It's taken me a while to process everything that happened at this year's SIPtemberfest in Vermont's Mad River Valley. And by "process everything" I mean thoughts, triglycerides and blood alcohol levels. Picture all of the beer that people from all over New England regularly trade their perfectly good weekends and money to procure all in one place and you'd get SIPtemberfest. Perfectly organized by the wonderful Meg Schultz of Meg's Events and flawlessly executed by her gang of volunteers and sponsors.

It's 7:00 a.m. on a Friday morning and there are five of us inside the monstrous black suburban hurtling north on 93. There's already concern that the beast doesn't have sufficient space to house all the beer that will be with us on the return trip...and so the insanity begins. The North East Kingdom of Vermont, with its gorgeous vistas, serene stillness, and religious beer community is as close to heaven we unwashed masses can get. Hill Farmstead's famous Festival of Farmhouse Ales, the brewery's end-of-the-year festival, draws down the voracious, bearded horde like Charlie Bucket with a golden ticket to the Wonka factory.

The food isn't that great.
               I'd like to see a better selection of beer.

These are all examples of things you didn't hear ANYONE say at the extremely well-executed Hop Jam 2014. It was hard to even write that last line given all the rock-star beers they served up this weekend.
