How We’ll Be Celebrating St Patrick’s Day At American Craft Beer

St, How We’ll Be Celebrating St Patrick’s Day At American Craft Beer

St Patrick’s Day is almost here…Dublin is already in lockdown and Boston and NYC are raging. And although we’re largely pagan here at the American Craft Beer compound, this once religious celebration has long become an excuse for serious drinking – so obviously we’re in!

Celebrated annually on March 17th for more than 1000 years, St Patrick’s Day, has evolved into a cultural acknowledgement of the Irish people many of whom have already started drinking…and we hope to catch up.

What We Won’t Be Doing

We won’t be wearing green for the holiday that’s for sure…or lying that we’ve relatives in Galway. Most Americans are multi-ethnic mutts nowadays anyway…And after a couple of beers almost everybody claims to be largely Irish on St Patrick’s Day.

The good news is craft beer journalists, we no longer have to rationalize our St Patrick’s Day drinking here at American Craft Beer. We used to be drunks but now we’re professionals chasing down a story!

What We Will Be Doing

Out of deference to the beloved religious icon (who actually was a British transplant!), we usually start our day of controlled-drinking around breakfast on St Patrick’s Day…and with low ABV Irish lager so we can maintain a light buzz before we get more aggressive as the evening approaches.

We will be bailing out of work early and hitting an Irish pub somewhere in town to get in the mood. There’s nothing like hanging out with hundreds of college kids (and the occasional Iranian) all claiming to be Irish while guzzling green beer.

We may also try to track down some authentic Irish cuisine. After all who doesn’t enjoy a big bowl of Irish stew that’s 90% potatoes and cabbage, punctuated with tidbits of lamb, mutton, or goat organs after having consumed 140 beers?

Later we’ll Uber our way home and make faces at the authorities manning the DUI checkpoints as they begrudging wave us along.

And being the professionals we are, we’ll probably end this St Patrick’s Day blaring old U2 and Pogues recordings until the neighbors threaten to call the cops.

We’ll finish things off this year with some undistinguished Irish whiskey as we give up on trying to undress and pass out somewhere near the bed with strains of Danny Boy on auto-repeat in our head.

Again, we don’t even try to rationalize our St Patrick’s Day behavior here at the American Craft Beer offices anymore…

After all were no longer just drunks claiming to be Irish…We’re craft beer professionals chasing an important story.
