Boubon County Brand Stout – 2015

Okay we admit that there’s a bit of a click-bait aspect to this announcement. But we’re not above that…so here’s the deal.

Founded in Chicago by John Hall in 1988, Goose Island Beer was purchased by AB InBev in 2011 for a reported $38 million. And it has been part of the world’s biggest brewing company’s US subsidiary’s craft portfolio, the High End, since 2014.

But In spite of Goose island’s sale to that global conglomerate, it’s boutique line of Bourbon County  Barreled-Aged Stouts have remained a powerful draw for beer fans and collectors around the world… Which brings us to the “Land Down Under’ and the beer auction happening this week.

You see,  these legendary barrel-aged stouts had never been released in Australia till just last year where with but 900 bottles available, they disappeared almost overnight.

All except for 12 prized bottles which the company has announced they’ll be auctioning on Wednesday.

In an emailed statement, Australian brew master Mick O’Rance positioned the impending beer auction that will be broadcast live from Melbourne store Beermas on March 21st this way…

“Today, while it now seems every craft brewery has adopted a barrel program, the legendary status of the Bourbon County Stout ensures its enduring appeal and place within the beer world.”

And in another srewd move on AB InBev’s part, Goose Island’s Tiffany Waldron has let it be known that proceeds from the sales of the LAST 12 bottles of Bourbon County Brand Stout available in Australia, will go to supporting “ scholarships to empower more women in the beery industry.”
