With International Beer Day now behind us, we turn our attention to the world’s best-selling beer and we’re guessing that most of you have never even heard of it.
Hint: it’s not Budweiser or Heineken, nor is it supposed to be any good.
According to Business Insider Snow, a Chinese lager that’s almost exclusively sold in China, is the bestselling beer in the world.
A super non-premium 4% lager, Snow grew a mind-blowing 473% over the past decade!
Brewed by the scintillatingly named China Resources, Snow Beer, which commands almost 25% of China’s market (and a 5.5% global market share) has been described by Fortune “a forgettable pale lager that doesn’t taste like much.”
Hardly a rave…
Keep in mind that this is a beer that was only able to scratch out a “poor” rating of 68 on Beeradvocate, but it did beat out Budweiser which came in at 58 earning an ”awful” rating,
So maybe Snow’s not “awful” but it is cheap and ubiquitous in China.
And in spite of being “THE WORLD’S MOST POPULAR BEER,” we don’t expect that you’ll be seeing it at your next bottle share, and if you do, it’s time to rethink who you’re hanging with.
