, The World’s Most Expensive (And Inexpensive) Tourist Cities For Beer

Bateaux London, a leading restaurant cruise line based in the British capital, recently calculated the average cost of a pint of beer, based on 150 bar and restaurant prices in 20 of world most popular tourist cities. And we thought that this was REALLY “news you could use.”

According to their study (which also compares wine prices), Madrid is currently the cheapest city in the world to enjoy a beer, with the average pint in the Spanish capital going for £2.10, ($2.62 US). That’s significantly cheaper than most of the world’s other major tourist centers, almost ten times less than in the costliest city!

The other cities selling beer the most affordable beer were also in Europe. Budapest is currently selling suds for £2.94 ($3.66 US). In Vienna a beer will cost you £3.10 ($3.86 US), followed by Berlin where you’ll pay approximately £3.62 ($4.51 US) and Rome where you can party for £4.11 ($5.12 US).

According to Bateaux London, “you can get beer cheaper in some European capitals like Bratislava and Kiev,” but they suggest that given those region’s crime troubles and political unrest, the average tourist would be better served by sticking to the major tourist cities included in their report.

At the other end of the scale, their data suggests that one need’s to avoid Iceland like the plague!

Iceland’s capital city, Reykjavik, is currently home to the world’s priciest beer, with the average pint going for £12.41 ($15.47 US). That’s over ten times more expensive than in either the Spanish or the Hungarian capital.

The second most expensive beer in the world can now be found in the most populous city in the United Arab Emirates.

A cold pint of beer in Dubai, will cost you £8.66, ($10.79 US), followed by Singapore at £7.48 ($9.48 US), Hong Kong £6.76 ($8.43 US) and New York where generic beer currently costs on average £6.73 ($8.39 US)

The respected London restaurant cruise company also noted that…

Cities around the world like Rome, London, New York and Tokyo continue to be hot spots for the average beer drinker.
