Restration for one of the beer industry’s most prestigious competitions, the World Beer Cup, is opening soon, so brewers need to be ready because this competition is a big deal.

Winning a World Beer Cup is like winning a Grammy, an Emmy or Oscar…it brings the world’s attention to even the smallest brewery’s doorstep…and like a hit song or film, it can make a career.

The largest professional beer competition in the world, the World Beer Cup, has up until been held every two years, but due to its immense popularity the Brewers Association, who sponsor the event are now returning it annually.

Registration for the 2023 World Beer Cup begins on November 1 and runs through November 14, 2022.

Unlike many competitions held in the US, this event is open to all brewers pitting craft breweries like Allagash against big beer companies such as Anheuser-Busch or Molson Coors. And it’s open to professional breweries all around the globe that meet all legal and permitting requirements for breweries in their respective country.

The Brewers Association started the World Beer Cup in 1996 to celebrate the global art and science of brewing. Beers are judged by a panel of elite international judges and the top three beers in each category are presented gold, silver, and bronze awards.

The 2022 competition saw 10,542 entries from 2,493 breweries representing 57 different countries. More than 11,000 entries are expected for 2023.

“We’re looking forward to meeting the demand that’s been generated to make this an annual competition,” said Chris Williams, competition director. “While the sheer size of the World Beer Cup makes it incredibly competitive, when a brewery takes home an award, they can say they are the best in the world.”

Additional information on the application process, shipping consolidation points, and more can be found on WorldBeerCup.org.

Winners will be announced May 10, 2023 at Music City Center in Nashville, Tenn. at the conclusion of the trade association’s annual Craft Brewers Conference® & BrewExpo America®.

“When industry professionals acknowledge the excellence in products from around the market, the beer drinker can be sure that those brands are the finest available,” Swersey added.
