Rogue Brewing’s Dead Guy Ale may be the most famous Halloween beer in the world. And with fall coming, the Oregon-based brewery, is returning its Paint The Can Dead contest and beer lovers with an artistic bent to design their own Dead Guy cans.
Starting now and running through October 31, Rogue is challenging fans to create Dead Guy inspired art on blank white cans available in specially marked packages of the popular ale.
This year a panel of expert artists will pick 3 winners each week in September and October, sending 24 lucky entrants into the finals where consumers will get to vote alongside the judges to determine the ultimate grand prize winner to receive a $5,000 cash prize.
Random entrants will also be awarded prizes throughout the competition so even if you’ve got absolutely no artistic skills, you might win something.
Rogue’s flagship beer, Dead Guy Ale, is a 6.5% ABV Maibock-style ale which is crafted using proprietary Pacman yeast. This award-winning ale is deep honey in color with a malty aroma and a rich, hearty flavor. Dead Guy has remained Rogue’s most popular beer for over 30 years and its sales soar around Halloween.
“Dead Guy has been our most popular beer for 30 years for a reason,” said Hagen Moore, VP of Marketing and Creative. “People are drawn to the artwork on the label and of course the great name but it’s the incredible depth of flavor that keeps them drinking it time and again.”
“This beer is a year-round favorite but deserves a special birthday celebration around Halloween when it was first brewed. We love celebrating the OG of craft beer by challenging fans in the annual ‘Paint the Can Dead’ contest.”
“This year, we doubled the prize amouny,” Moore added “and can’t wait to see what our talented fans come up with for year three.”
