Spring is ON and summer closing in. And we’ve some interesting new beer releases that should pair smartly with your weekend.
Beach Timed (Frederick, MD) – Memorial Day Weekend (the unofficial start of summer) is nearing and Flying Dog is celebrating things with a special limited release they did with Dolle’s Candyland, the Eastern Shore’s historic saltwater taffy company.
A one-of-a-kind limited release reminiscent of days full of taffy (and beer) at the beach, Flying Dog Saltwater Taffy IPA is a 7.6% ABV India Pale Ale that blends the flavor of freshly squeezed lemons and citrus hops with rich notes of vanilla creaminess that linger.
Saltwater Taffy IPA is being released under the Brewhouse Rarities umbrella, meaning that the idea behind this seaside-inspired treat originated from a Flying Dog employee as part of the brewery’s annual pitch program. And this partnership isn’t one-sided either, Dolle’s is creating a beer flavored version of their famous taffy with hops provided by Flying Dog.

A Gigantic Collaboration (Pacific City, OR) -Pelican Brewing has teamed up with Gigantic Brewing’s Ben Love and crafted its second collaboration beer in their four-part Bird-Day Alumni Series.
Inspired by the Mezcal Sour, Pelican Bird-Day Volume II is a complex and flavorful 7% ABV cocktail-inspired ale that was brewed with ripe tangerines and aged for three months in three different kinds of Mezcal barrels.
“It’s been an honor to join brewmaster Darron Welch and the team on Pelican’s birthday collaboration,” said Ben Love. “Pelican was my first real brewing job seventeen years ago.” “When Ben and I brewed together seventeen years ago, it was just Ben and I doing everything,” Welch added. “Ben’s gregarious enthusiasm for the beer industry is infectious.”
U Ticklish? (Indianapolis, IN) – Indiana’s second largest brewery, Sun King Brewing has a tasty summer seasonal that we wish was available all year-round. Brewed with a balanced menu of Mandarina and Citrus hops, Sun King Hop Tickler India Pale Ale is a 6.2% ABV American IPA brimming with earthy citrus, pine, grapefruit notes and a gentle sweetness.
