February is ON and American craft brewers are addressing things with exciting new beers you’re gonna want to have around.
A No-Fault Alt (Portland, OR) – In celebration of Ecliptic Brewing’s newest location, the Moon Room, a small batch venue specifically engineered for lagering, the brewery has introduced the Moon Room Series. And they’ve just released their first small-batch lager of 2023 (which ironically is actually an ale) that originated in the Düsseldorf area of Germany around 1266.
Brewed with Noble hops and Munich and Chocolate malts, Ecliptic Moon Room Series: Altbier is a 5.7% ABV limited release with slightly spicy hop character and a dry, rustic finish. And while it is technically an ale, it is cold fermented like a lager.
Altbier is an ale, brewed in the “old” way (“alt” literally means old in German) prior to lager yeast even being discovered,” said Ecliptic’s Owner and Brewmaster, John Harris, “After playing around with some Altbier recipes last year that we loved, we wanted to add this classic old-world brew to our Moon Room lineup of German-style beers.”
Bet On Black (Escondido, CA) – Stone Brewing has a new addition to its One Batch Dispatch Series, a line of super fresh beers only available online and at Stone locations. The series features unexpected styles, innovative recipes and only a finite number of four-packs with each release.
Created by Liberty Station brewer Kris Ketcham to celebrate that experimental brewery’s ninth anniversary, Stone 9 Minutes is 9% ABV double dry-hopped Imperial Black IPA with a tropical hop character and light coffee and chocolate notes. But there’s a dash of the unexpected: a blend-in of Stone’s whiskey barrel-aged beer 25th Anniversary Triple IPA, (another of Kris’s creations) for the finishing touch.
Living Da Life (Kihei, Hawaii) – Maui Brewing is celebrating 2023 in the islands with the return of a favorite that been on the back burner for far too long. Crafted with Citra Cryo hops offering a clean citrus flavor with light malt character, Maui Da Hawaii Life is a pale gold dry-hopped American Lager that’s both sessionable and uber-refreshing.
“Da Hawaii Life is a hop-forward lager with characteristics common in an IPA, Head Brewer James Newman adds but ultimately crisper, cleaner, and more crushable. This is a perfect thirst-quenching beach beverage or backyard barbecue beer.”
