The Price of a Pint of Beer In 20 Major U.S. Cities

|April 10th, 2026|

A smiling bartender in a blue t-shirt passes a tall, frothy glass of beer to a customer with a tattooed arm across a bar counter featuring several metal taps and liquor bottles in the background.

If it feels like your go-to pint of beer is creeping toward luxury status, you’re not imagining things—it actually is…at least in some U.S. cities.

According to new data from Toast, the median price of a beer across 20 major U.S. markets ticked up 1.9% over the past year, landing at $6.52. Not exactly wallet-crushing—yet—but dig a little deeper and the story gets more interesting (and a bit more expensive depending on where you’re drinking).

Let’s start with the heavyweight: Manhattan. The borough officially became the first—and so far only—place in the country where the median price of a pint has crossed the $9 line, now sitting at a lofty $9.16.

Close behind is Boston, where beer prices are steadily inching toward that same psychological barrier. At $8.69, Beantown is flirting with nine-dollar territory quickly.

Meanwhile, a handful of cities are seeing sharper jumps than the national average. Philadelphia, Nashville, and Washington, D.C. all logged increases of 3% or more—suggesting that what used to be a casual round is becoming a slightly more considered decision.

But thankfully not everywhere is trending upward.

San Antonio quietly claimed the title of most affordable beer city in the study, with a median price of $5.99—and it’s the only market where prices actually dipped year-over-year (down 0.4%). A small but notable win for budget-conscious drinkers.

Then there are the steady players.

Atlanta barely budged, with a near-imperceptible 0.03% increase, while Brooklyn (tracked separately from Manhattan) saw a modest 0.4% rise—proof that not every corner of the beer world is sprinting toward sticker shock.

City Median Beer Prices March 2026 YoY Price Change
Atlanta, GA $6.86 +0.3%
Austin, TX $6.73 +1.9%
Boston, MA $8.69 +1.0%
Brooklyn, NY $8.02 +0.4%
Charlotte, NC $6.62 +1.2%
Chicago, IL $7.52 +1.6%
Dallas, TX $6.74 +2.8%
Denver, CO $7.02 +2.3%
Houston, TX $6.32 +1.5%
Las Vegas, NV $7.57 +2.5%
Los Angeles, CA $8.41 +0.9%
Miami, FL $7.93 +2.7%
Nashville, TN $6.85 +3.2%
New York, NY $9.16 +1.8%
Philadelphia, PA $7.17 +3.3%
San Antonio, TX $5.99 -0.4%
San Diego, CA $7.92 +1.2%
San Francisco, CA $8.50 +1.9%
Seattle, WA $7.72 +2.5%
Washington, DC $8.17 +3.0%

So what’s driving all this?

It’s likely a perfect storm of rising costs for ingredients, labor, rent, and distribution—all of which eventually show up in your beer glass. Still, while the national average suggests a slow climb, the local reality can vary wildly depending on where you pull up a barstool.
