The fourth state we're getting the skinny on is The Natural State, Arkansas. Known for it's dense timberlands as well as two mountain ranges (Ozark and Ouachita), it ranks 32nd in total population (2.97 million), is backed by the Arkansas Brewers Guild as well as the Arkansas Craft Distributors and at last count houses roughly 20 breweries.  The bulk of the state's breweries are found in Little Rock and Fayetteville and as of 2013, the state ranked 41st in total breweries and 40st in breweries per capita, according to the Brewers Assocation.

So many beers- So little time... Gigantic Brewing only makes one year-round, Gigantic IPA. Everything else is a seasonal that's usually around for no longer than 3 months and then never repeated again - and that's why we're psyched about their latest offering. We've some new releases from Deschutes and Heavy Seas that sound exceptionally awesome as well.

If you read us regularly (and we don't know why you wouldn't) you understand better than most that we've got opinions about almost everything. That doesn't mean that we're better informed or any smarter than the guy at the bar drinking next to you - it only means that we've opinions. Some of those opinions we're pretty sure we got right - others not so much.

We blame the industry for this... It used to be that when we wrapped up our Weekend Picks on Friday, we could coast through the weekend. There was little need to check in for updates - things were pretty much done. But clearly all that's changed.

The third state we're putting under the microscope is The Grand Canyon State, Arizona. This wild and arid state has more folks residing there than we expected, ranking 15th in total population (over 6.7 million), is supported by the Arizona Craft Brewers Guild and at last count houses roughly 70 breweries and brewpubs in total.  Much of Arizona is desert and forest wilderness, so the bulk of their breweries are found in metropolitan Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. As of 2013, the state ranked 19th in total breweries and 31st in breweries per capita, according to the Brewers Assocation.
