If you are reading this then something went horribly wrong and you may be the only one left. We had heard so much about the Mayan prophecy that the world would end on 12/21/12, but I didn't believe it. There was nothing in my non-superstitious mind that made me think that this was anything more that another Y2K: something cooked up to make the paranoid more paranoid. And I always felt that 12/22/12 would be just like 1/2/2000, and we would all be fine, but I didn't expect what would happen at Elysian Fields on that Thursday...

Be Afraid…Be Very afraid – Craft Beer is Not Going Away

They're more scared than they're letting on....And with all the data coming out lately, they damn well should be.

The bad news for Big Beer keeps coming -you've been reading it everywhere. Sales of craft beer continue to soar. According to the Boulder-based Brewers Association, sales in the first half of 2012 rose 14 percent over the same period in 2011. Production's up by 12 percent! Guest Metrics, a proprietary database that tracks transactions from restaurants and bars has just released a report that reveals that "Anheuser-Busch InBev, MillerCoors, and Heineken USA all lost share to craft beers in on-premise during 2012." That's a two share on-premise loss to craft beer. Big beer can't be loving that!

The American Craft Beer Holiday Picks

Here in Madison we welcomed 15 inches of snow today by way of 35 mph winds. On days like today, there is little Sconnies can do but crack open a brew and let Mother Nature do her thing. Luckily I had some of my favorite craft brews and crafty friends on hand to keep me company. We pride ourselves in our winter knowledge up here, and we've come up with what we believe to be the choice beers this side of the snowpocalypse.
