With Halloween nearly upon us, it’s the perfect time to showcase the art of a master, whose truly haunting Jolly Pumpkin beer labels still resonate today.
Here’s the deal…
Michigan’s Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales has always marched to their own distinct drummer. They were brewing sour beers and artisan rustic ales back when few craft beer fans even knew what they were…
And with a name like Jolly Pumpkin and a logo that features an etching of a grinning jack-o’-lantern, this Dexter, Michigan headquartered brewery which was founded by Brewmaster Ron Jeffries in 2004, was made for Halloween.
Their beer label art has always been hauntingly beautiful as well. And with Halloween’s arrival there’s not a better time to celebrate the art of Adam Forman.
Adam Forman describes himself as a ‘gentleman artist’ and he’s has been designing Jolly Pumpkin’s Beer fantastical labels ever since the brewery launched in 2004.
His artwork is a trippy gothic mashup of artists like Toulouse-Lautrec, writers like Lewis Carrol, graphic comic masters like Watchman’s Dave Gibbons and Foreman’s own neo-romantic vision. Not surprising for an artist who’s also worked on films in Hollywood (and also done tattoos).
Almost everything’s he’s designed for Jolly Pumpkin is ‘museum quality,’ as far as we’re concerned. And here are five labels that struck us as particularly ‘All Hallows Eve’ appropriate…Enjoy!
Jolly Pumpkin’s Sour Pumpkin label is one of Adam Forman’s best!
Jolly Pumpkin’s collaboration With Monkish brewing…another classic.
We especially like the quote etched on the blood-filled chalice.
Brooding cat, sour red ale and full moon…perfect!
Another Jolly Pumpkin / Adam Forman haunted classic
