The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – December 14, 2012

, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – December 14, 2012

Hey it’s Friday and we’re heading into the weekend. With the holidays just around the corner (not to mention the End of Times as predicted by the Mayan calendar), you’ve never been busier, and you, no doubt, need a break! So if you’re up for some ideas, we’ve got them. We’re all about the fun and we’ve got you covered. Plus we’ve got some special “End of the World” weekend beer picks for you too! So welcome to our Weekend Picks!

Chicago’s craft beer emporium, Fischman Liquors and Tavern will be celebrating Fisch-mas this Saturday, (Dec 15th) and you don’t want to miss it. , The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – December 14, 2012This is a five-hour afternoon event (yes!) and it will feature tons of winter seasonals and hard-to-find releases. There will be jazz (sure…why not?) and the Wagyu Wagon will be grilling burgers (now we’re talking!), but most importantly, there will be some really serious beer! We’ve been asked to pass on that there will also be an ugly sweater contest, so be sure to wear something awful when you come in!

Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be opening this weekend and if you don’t know anything about it, you’ve been drinking too much. This is a prequel to Jackson’s Lord of the Rings Trilogy and its production has been plagued by all kinds of controversy. Jackson has taken what was originally a simple children’s fantasy and turned it into another epic trilogy with this movie being only the first installment. Maybe his gamble works and he’s anointed once again – or maybe it doesn’t and the king takes a fall – either way, we know that we’re going!

Plew’s Brews is a serious craft beer bar in the St. John’s neighborhood of North Portland, and they’ll be hosting their second annual St. John’s Winter Beer Fest this weekend. This three-day event, (Dec 14th-Dec 16th) which is co-sponsored with Oakshire Brewing and Thurston Beervents, will feature a variety of Belgian-style beers, stouts, winter ales, and barley wines. Food will be provided by Tim the Sausage Guy and you don’t want to miss out on him!

The best music this weekend is taking place on the water and you’re invited to get on board. The S.S. Coachella Bahamas 2012 is described as a “music festival at sea” and it’s a three-day cruise (Dec 16th-19th) that leaves from the Port of Fort Lauderdale and journeys to the Bahamas. And while you’re cruising, you’ll be rocking to some of the musical world’s cooler names including Pulp, Girl Talk, James Murphy, and ACB fav, Hot Chip!

Our Apocalyptic Weekend Beer Picks

, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – December 14, 2012Tröegs just joined Airways, Elysian, and a multitude of brewers who’d probably rather that we didn’t reference them in celebrating the impending “End of the World” along with the Mayan community. And since we’re feeling totally apocalyptic today, we’re making them all our weekend beer picks…

In a last ditch effort to celebrate the end of the Mayan calendar (and possibly the world) on 12/21/12, Tröegs Brewing Company has released ¿Impending Descent? a colossal Russian Imperial Stout. It’s now available in 6-packs, cases, growlers, and on draft and you obviously don’t want to wait on this.

In yet another tawdry attempt to capitalize on our demise,  Airways Brewing Company is releasing the final 15 cases of its popular Final Departure Imperial Stout, ensuring the last beer you enjoy is one you’ll never forget.

And as if things weren’t already desperate enough, Elysian Brewing Company will soon be unleashing the final beer in their 12 BEERS OF THE APOCALYPSE SERIES:: DOOM Golden Treacle Pale. Doom will be available on draft and in bottles with labels featuring the artwork of comic artist Charles Burns from his weirdly apocalyptic Black Hole series.
