The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – April 26, 2013

Hey it’s Friday and we’re heading into the weekend. As spring has finally shown up around most of the country, we all must be prepared to start enjoying it! So, clock out from your 9-5 and cut loose! Welcome to this week’s edition of our awesome Weekend Picks!

, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – April 26, 2013The second annual Drafts and Laughs will be returning to the Maryland National Guard Armory in Annapolis, Maryland this Saturday, April 27. If you missed it last year, well, you blew it, and this is your shot at redemption. This year’s event, which concludes Annapolis Beer Week, is offering an afternoon and an evening session, both featuring exotic offerings from some of the region’s best craft brewers. Drafts and Laughs will also be presenting some of the mid-Atlantic’s funniest comedians, so you don’t want to miss this one-of-a-kind experience.

Last year, we covered April Brews Day, a yearly craft beer fueled fundraiser for the Max Higbee Center up in Bellingham, Washington. If you want to take a Saturday drive to one of the best cities in the U.S. (also one that is only a few miles from the Canadian border…do with that what you will), then visit some of our old friends in the market outside of Boundary Bay Brewery and Bistro. It is all for a good cause, and hosts some great tastes. For more information, visit their site.

Not on the West Coast and want to raise some money for the Arthritis Foundation? Well, drop by Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock, Arkansas for the 2013 Food & Foam Fest, a craft beer festival offering samples of more than 250 different kinds of beer, wine, and cuisine from local restaurateurs! As the site puts it: “Food & Foam Fest raises awareness of America’s leading cause of disability, while raising much-needed funds for research, health education, and government advocacy to improve the lives of people with arthritis.” Sounds like something we could easily raise a glass to.

, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – April 26, 2013Alright, look, we don’t really encourage anything that includes skinny jeans, curly mustaches, and flannel shirts with ties, but when The Hipster Olympics boasts the beer list they have, then we’re on board. You’ll find brews from the likes of Goose Island Beer Company, Firestone Walker Brewing Co., and Three Floyds Brewing Company. So crank up your Neutral Milk Hotel or Grizzly Bear albums, slap on your favorite hoody, and ride your fixie down to Chicago’s Local Option on Friday to participate.

Alright boys and girls, this isn’t necessarily the best weekend for film openings (that’s next weekend…Iron Man 3 anyone?), but there’s no reason to sit alone in the house when you can sit in the dark with a bunch of strangers and see: Pain & Gain. Look, this isn’t a Spielberg or Nolan opus AT ALL, but we will see anything with The Rock or Mark Wahlberg. Why? Why not?

Our Weekend Beer Pick

, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – April 26, 2013Look, we love beer and we love awesome art. That’s why this week’s pick is Elysian Superfuzz Blood Orange, a Pale Ale sprinkled with the citrusy goodness of blood orange. Holy crap, it’s good. Good enough to continue having a 6-pack in the fridge and one in the cupboard. Oh, and since it’s a summer seasonal, it reminds you what’s right around the corner. Enjoy as you sit on the porch looking out at the kids, dogs, or mountain lions playing in your yard.
