So fasten your seatbelts everybody…THIS WEEK’S RUMOR MILL IS ON!

, The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – May 22, 2013Heady Not Heading To Beantown Just Yet (Boston, MA) – It doesn’t sound like The Alchemist’s uber-popular IPA Heady Topper will be making its way down to Boston anytime soon. The Boston Globe is reporting that, in spite of the brewery’s quadrupled production, they still can’t produce the volume needed to spread to Boston at this time. They are currently selling 150 barrels a week right out of the brewery’s retail room. Yikes!

Intuition Ale Finds a New Place To Park (Jacksonville, FL) – During a recent visit to Jacksonville’s legendary Intuition Ale Works, we had the opportunity to visit with its owner and brewer Ben Davis. And over beer, he tipped us to the fact that they’d been looking for a new location where they could build a much-needed and much bigger brewery. At that time, he said that they were honing in on one of two locations, but that they hadn’t made a final decision. It now appears that they have found their place. Jacksonville.com is reporting that they will be purchasing approximately 10 acres of a now-closed city park with plans to build a 20,000-square-foot brewery and a 2,500-square-foot taproom and event space in the next 18 to 24 months.

Shocker! Southern Tier Looks South (Lakewood, NY) – In a move that might strike many as hardly surprising, especially for a brewery named such as it is, New York State’s Southern Tier Brewing Company has announced that they have added Louisiana to their distribution network. On another note, now might be a good time to grab a chocolate bar and a good cup of coffee for solace – we’ve heard that Southern Tier will be discontinuing their Mokah and Jahva brews indefinitely. But there is a silver lining to this dark cloud, as their retirement will make room for three newbies in their Blackwater Series.

Arizona Buzzkill (Flagstaff, AZ) – A longtime fixture of Flagstaff’s booming craft beer scene, The Homebrewers Outpost is shutting down. Beloved by the area’s homebrewers, many of whom went on to start their own commercial operations like Mother Road, the company filled a much-needed niche for local beer enthusiasts. “The business always had a loyal local following,” according to azdailysun.com, but that “Flagstaff’s relatively small population made it hard to support a family just by selling brewing supplies to locals.”

Delaware’s Governor Does The Right Thing (Dover, DE) – In what many consider a shocking departure from form, Governor Jack Markell has signed into law House Bill 31, which allows Delaware liquor stores to fill and sell growlers of draught beer on site. “Neighboring states Pennsylvania and New Jersey already allow liquor stores to sell growlers,” reports the Delaware.NewsZap, “while Maryland’s law is on county-by-county basis.”
