The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – March 26, 2014
Hey it’s Wednesday and that means it’s Rumor Mill Time….The New York International Beer Competition just announced their 2014 winners and we’ve got the complete rundown on them for you! Plus we’ve an update from our friends at New Belgium and some San Francisco Giants news from Anchor Brewing.
So fasten your seat belts everybody because….THIS WEEK’S RUMOR MILL IS ON!
Colorado Governor Initiates The Draft! (Denver, Co) – In a state that now boasts well over two hundred breweries, you can find craft beer on just about every block in every city. And now KDVR is reporting that as of this week, you can sample serious craft beer on tap in the Governor’s Mansion, “now the first official governor’s residence in the country with its own draft beer system.”
The NYIBC Announces 2014 Winners (New York, NY) – The 3rd Annual New York International Beer Competition was held on Feb 9th in the heart of New York City to evaluate and judge the world’s best beer, and they’ve just announced their 2014 Winners. Close to 400 beers and ciders from more than 20 countries were submitted in this year’s competition to be critiqued by a panel of A-List and key trade only judges – beer buyers, beer retail storeowners, restaurant/bar proprietors, beer distributors and importers – those that have the unique ability to make a direct impact on sales.

Possibly the Last Dry City on the Planet Seeks to Allow Beer Sales (Sparta, WI) – Who knew that there were cities in states like Wisconsin (of all places!) where it’s still illegal to purchase beer? We were shocked to learn that for the last 50 years, you couldn’t buy a beer in Sparta, Wisconsin, but according to WXOW, that could soon change. In the name of liberty, American Craft Beer LLC is throwing its entire political weight into this regional fray, and a referendum reversing that long-standing ban is scheduled for April.
