The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill

Hey it’s Wednesday and, like it or not, it’s Rumor Mill time. Just because you’re still detoxing from your new year’s celebrations doesn’t mean we’re not running a Rumor Mill. It doesn’t matter to us that you’ve been power-pounding beer for the last 48 hours (who hasn’t?) – but this industry never sleeps! So crawl out of bed when you’re better – and fasten your seatbelt when you do – because THIS WEEK’S RUMOR MILL IS ON!

, The American Craft Beer Rumor MillIs the Largest and Tallest Brewpub in Buffalo?(Buffalo, NY) – There are big claims coming out of Western New York, according to Buffalo’s Business First. Bill Casale, GM for Buffalo’s Pearl Street Grill & Brewery cites years of expansions at several different properties and double digit growth as validating his claim that he presides over the world’s largest brewery “We’ve grown from two floors to five floors, “he boasts. And while American Craft Beer.com remains uncommitted as to the validity of Casale’s claim, we do endorse his bravado and will agree that a five-story brewpub warrants him some kind of bragging rights.

This Is Just Wrong! (Beerville, PA) In the annals of wrongness, this has to be near the top! Beerville is a small town in Pennsylvania that, in spite of its name, sells no beer! Yes it’s true, at least that’s what The Reporter is saying. Historians argue that the town may have been named after an individual rather than after “The Greatest Drink Known to Mankind” – who really knows? But whatever the origin of Beerville Pennsylvania’s name, for that town to not sell even one bottle of beer strikes us as totally unacceptable!

, The American Craft Beer Rumor MillTin Man to Can (Evansville, IN) – How can you be a new brewery named Tin Man and not can? Indiana-based Tin Man Brewing Company agrees and will be releasing four of their five core beers in cans. The Evansville Courier Press writes that “Dry Cell,” their Irish dry stout, will be the only beer that won’t be canned and will only be available on draft because it is nitrogenated instead of carbonated.

The Guilded Age (Boulder, CO) – The Brewers Association is reporting that, with Mississippi in the process of forming a brewer’s guild that will be up and running in early 2013, there will only be four states left in the country without guilds – Wyoming, South Dakota, North Dakota, and West Virginia.

Craft Beer Meet-ups Lead to Start-Ups (Silicon Valley) – Who knew? Drinking serious beer with buddies at the neighborhood brewpub might change the world. TechCrunch is reporting that regular beer outings initiated by a coder in northern California has now become a Hackers/Founders, a full-on movement boasting thousands of members. They’re not just friends guzzling beer now – they’re actually “accidental incubators” for area start-ups like Zerply, VidCaster, Tripping, CodeEval, Browserling, and Pieceable — and two have already been acquired.
