Stone Brewing’s Greg Koch Goes Nuts!

Stone, Stone Brewing’s Greg Koch Goes Nuts!

Stone’s co-founder Greg Koch has a truly nutty side-gig. Along with Tristen Cross and John Huber he’s launched Nutista an artisan company that approaches “nut butters from a craft beer mentality.” And we probably shouldn’t be surprised that they’ve a new product inspired by Stone’s Tangerine Express IPA either.

Here’s the deal…

It all started when Koch was on “a trip to brew a collaboration beer with northern Italy’s famous Baladin brewery,” and he had an epiphany after sampling the region’s Piedmont hazelnuts. He was amazed by how distinctive they were, especially compared to the commoditized versions he’d had in the states.

On a trip to Brazil (another beer collaboration with his friends at Bodebrown Brewery) Koch was blown away by the local Brazil nut…Which led him to start tinkering with nut butters back at home in San Diego and eventually to partner with product-marketing ace, Tristen Cross and a former stock market analyst turned heath advocate, John Hube, to form Nutista.

And just like at Stone Brewing, Nutista has year-round nut butters with irreverent names like “The Nut Job.” But they’ve also two special collaborations that they did (again not surprisingly) with Stone Brewing.”

Stone, Stone Brewing’s Greg Koch Goes Nuts!In March they released Nutista/Stone Totalitarian Imperial Russian Stout Nutbutter which was crafted with almonds and peanuts as well as cacao, golden light dry malt, Brazil Oberon coffee, roasted barley malt, brewer’s chocolate barley malt, black barley malt, pecans and sea salt.

And now Nutista has released Tangerine Express IPA Nutbutter which they describe as a “marmalade & nutbutter blend” that they hope you’ll pair with their newest IPA or just enjoy by the spoon.

Both butters can be bought via both the Nutista and Stone websites for $12 per 8-ounce jar…and that’s hardly nuts.
