While the classic “beer and shot” pairing has never completely disappeared, it’s fair to say that the combo hasn’t been a big part of the craft beer scene until now.

In December Stone Brewing and Bulleit Frontier Whiskey announced a new partnership that promotes the beer and booze combination that is generations old. And we can’t help but think that spirits having finally overtaken beer in total US sales was a factor.

The craft beer marketplace is maturing so why not tie your brand with an alcohol sector that’s growing?

Plus who doesn’t like the idea of drinking like a dockhand or cowboy? This new alliance couldn’t be more American, an aspect which takes on increased importance since Stone Brewing was sold to Japanese major Sapporo last year in a $165 million deal.

But obviously Stone Brewing and Bulleit Frontier Whiskey have joined forces to promote their own products.

The collaboration initially kicked off with the release of the highly exclusive Stone One Batch Dispatch: Gimme Yule Gimme Fire Barrel-Aged Bock in December. This limited release, which is now long gone, was aged in Bulleit Rye Whiskey barrels, and sold exclusively online and at Stone Brewing locations.

Following the Gimme Yule Gimme Fire Barrel-Aged Bock Stone announced the release of two new beers to accompany the company’s popular Stone Delicious IPA. The gluten-reduced West Coast Style IPA is now joined by Stone Delicious Double IPA and Stone Delicious Citrus IPA in a format hardly ever seen on shelves – a variety can six-pack.

And Stone feels that all three beers compliment Bulleit Frontier Whiskey ideally, providing a perfect beer and a shot combo.

“Bulleit Frontier Whiskey is such a reputable and well-respected brand, we’re honored to offer our beers alongside their whiskeys,” said Erin Smith, Stone Brewing VP of Marketing. “When we take on partnerships, it’s with brands that value their fans and commit to quality like we do.”

Stone and Bulleit also celebrate a shared focus on sustainability.

Bulleit’s Distilling Co. in Shelbyville, Kentucky, has pioneered processes that reduce carbon emissions, conserve water and manage waste during production. And Stone Brewing is equally committed to minimizing its environmental impact through its world-class water reclamation, LEED Certification, creative uses of spent grain, philanthropic support, and more.

“We’re incredibly excited to extend our Bulleit & Beer program with Stone Brewing,” added Johannah Rogers, Global Brand Director at Diageo North America. “As a brand that places a unique focus on responsibly crafting delicious beers, Stone reflects Bulleit’s values of designing environmentally friendly initiatives to create the best products.”
