DC Gets New Craft Brewery

Six years in the making, City-State Brewing, Washington, DC’s newest brewery and officially opens its taproom to the public Friday, June 4th.

Located in in the Capital City’s NE Brookland neighborhood, the 3,000-square-foot microbrewery and taproom, almost six years in the making, comes from neighborhood resident and former congressional aide James Warner who left Capitol Hill to immerse himself in the brewing biz.

The long-awaited brewery, which celebrates DC with beer names like 8 Wards Independent Pale Ale and features taproom posters by local artist Anthony Dihle that capture the city’s diverse vibe, is housed in a former freight rail which is easily accessible to DC’s Metro subway line.

City-State Brewing is actually two connected brewing operations, a 20-barrel system for producing larger runs and a 5-barrel system for more experimental beers. Both of them overseen by Head Brewer Vincent Falcone, an award-winning industry vet with more than 30 years of experience in the biz.
