Deschutes to Close East Coast Tasting Room

On October 20 Bend, Oregon-based Deschutes Brewery announced that after four years of operating a tasting room in Roanoke, Virginia it would not be renewing its lease and will cease operations at the end of the year.

In 2016 Deschutes committed to opening an East Coast brewery in Roanoke, Virginia, a project that the company eventually pulled out of. But they did continue to run a downtown tasting room that has now fallen victim to the economic impact of COVID-19.

“After four years of operating our Roanoke, Virginia Tasting Room, Deschutes has made the tough decision not to renew our lease and will cease operations at the end of the year. We have all seen the global pandemic significantly reduce traffic in all restaurants, pubs, and tasting rooms, the Roanoke Tasting Room is no exception.”

“As we prepare for closing, we plan to honor company commitments, treat all employees equitably and step forward with care and attention on how this impacts the Roanoke community and our dedicated co-owners who have managed this location over the past four + years.”

“We are working with each team member on opportunities to continue with Deschutes in a new capacity.”

Tesla Bier?

Tesla has trademarked the rights to use the phrases “Giga Beer” and “Giga Bier,” according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

During the “Giga Fest” event held on October 9th in Berlin, Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated “that the company will develop a beer, among other things, that it will sell under the Tesla brand in the coming years.”

According to the USPTO website, Tesla has submitted the trademarks for both “Giga Beer” and “Giga Bier,” hinting at a possible international expansion outside of Germany and into the United States.
