The beer biz never sleeps at American Craft Beer. And here’s just some of what’s been happening while you were drinking away the weekend.

World’s Strongest Beer Sells Out In One Day

For years Scotland-headquartered BrewDog has been competing with German brewer Schorschbräu to create the world’s strongest beer. But now the brewers have collaborated  and released an 57.8% ABV Eisbock together which, according to them, holds the title.

An Eisbock is a traditional specialty beer that origionated in the Kulmbach district of Germany which is made by partially freezing a Doppelbock and removing the water ice to concentrate flavor and alcohol content.

According to Fox, BrewDog’s contribution to what would become Strength In Numbers Eisbock, was a barrel of their 26% ABV Death or Glory, a distilled Belgian Golden Ale which was aged in a Scotch whisky cask for 10 years. The already high velocity beer was then sent to Schorschbräu in Germany who did the rest.

Released in the UK on September 17 and priced at £ 29 per bottle (about $37.50 in the US) the world’s strongest beer sold out the same day.
