Colorado Rules (Again) At Great American Beer Festival
Although it was their lowest haul in 16 years, Colorado breweries still took home 26 medals at the Great American Beer Festival on Friday according to the Denver Business Journal, the second-highest total of any state in this year’s competition.
“Cannonball Creek Brewing of Golden and Denver Beer Co led the way with three medals each, and eight breweries captured gold medals to signify the best beer made in each of 91 different styles. And while Denver- and Boulder-area breweries led the awards count as usual, the honors spread this year from Steamboat Springs to Crested Butte to Colorado Springs.”
Other gold-medal winners included Avery Brewing of Boulder, Blue Moon Brewing of Denver, Irwin Brewing of Crested Butte, Mirror Image Brewing of Frederick, Red Leg Brewing of Colorado Springs and Wibby Brewing of Longmont.

Dogfish Head and Sam Adams Debut New N/A Beers
One of the highlights of the Great American Beer Festival is Samuel Adam’s Beers & Brunch media event hosted annually by Jim Koch. And even though the Great American Beer Festival was a virtual event this year, the event went on last Friday only (you guessed it) virtually.
But that wasn’t the only thing which was different about this year’s beer brunch.
For the first time ever the beers showcased were new nonalcoholic offerings and because Dogfish Head is now part of Boston Beer, its founder Sam Calagione shared the stage (and the beers) with Jim Koch.
And in spite of an only limited interest in the fast-growing N/A beer segment (we enjoy buzz here at American Craft beer), we have to admit that both beers were impressive.
Planned to launch in February 2021, Samuel Adams non-alcoholic Just the Haze New England Hazy IPA, was juicy, citrusy and totally convincing.
Also scheduled to debut early next year, Dogfish Head Lemon Quest, which drinks like a lemony N/A sibling to the brewery’s bestselling sour mash-up SeaQuench Ale, was delicious as well.
