Newbies – New Craft Beer Releases That You Want to Look Out For – December 18, 2012

So many craft beers, so little time! With so many craft breweries, releasing so many beers, we thought it might help to provide a weekly update on all the new beers that are hitting the streets …..So welcome to this week’s edition of Newbies – your guide to great new craft beer releases!

The Boys from The Bronx Got a New One! (Bronx, NY) – Hey we just got a “heads up” from our friends at The Bronx Brewery and they’ve got a brand new beer that they’re releasing this week. Following on the heels of the Bronx Rye Pale Ale, The Bronx Brewery will be launching their second specialty beer, the Bronx Black Pale Ale, on December 19. Head Brewer Damian Brown explains that the intent was “to create a complex and unique beer from the dichotomy of dark malts and bright hops,” and we’re thinking that they nailed it! Look for the Bronx Black Pale to be at all the cool places in the Bronx, Manhattan, and Westchester this Wednesday.

, Newbies – New Craft Beer Releases That You Want to Look Out For – December 18, 2012Yet Another Reason to Move to California (Placentia, CA) – The Bruery just released this year’s Mélange #3 -their 15% ABV blend of White Oak Sap, Anniversary and Black Tuesday. They started tapping it at their Tasting Room and Provisions last Friday and bottles are, hopefully, still available.

Widgets Away! (Williams, AZ) – Okay, we want to be sure that we get this right…Seems that Grand Canyon Brewing Company has invented a beer conditioning flavor widget that they claim will revolutionize the industry. They call it the “Flavor Bomb” and they claim that the longer it’s left in a bottle of beer, the better the flavor. If you want to try their new Flavor Bomb widget, you’ll have an opportunity very soon. The Grand Canyon Brewery will soon be releasing three newbies, all in 22 oz bombers, and all with these flavor widgets.

First off the line will be their Shaggy Bock–a classic bock brewed with shaggy juniper bark. Its Flavor Bomb is packed with toasted oak and it weighs in at 6.74% ABV.

Next up is their Coffee Bean Stout. It includes a Flavor Bomb widget packed with locally sourced Sumatra coffee beans and comes in at a sessionable 5.2% ABV.

And last, but not least, will be their Hop Bomber India Pale Ale -The Flavor Bomb in this one is filled with a variety of hop cones before it’s inserted into the bottle and it clocks in at 7.5% ABV.

, Newbies – New Craft Beer Releases That You Want to Look Out For – December 18, 2012Westbrook Goes Baltic (Mt. Pleasant, SC) – Westbrook Brewing Company has responded to rumors that they have, in fact, gone Baltic – and the news from them is an unequivocal “maybe.”Seems they’ll soon be releasing the 2nd Anniversary Cap’n Skoon’s Ballistic Baltic Stout, a massive Imperial fermented with lager yeast and inspired by the legendary and fictional adventures of the mythical Cap’n Skoon (who bears an uncanny resemblance to their Head Brewer, Scott Koon). The 2nd Anniversary beer will be on tap and for sale in bottles every day starting on 12/20.

SweetWater Gets Festive (Atlanta, GA) – If you’re a regular reader of ours, you know that we’re big fans of SweetWater Brewing Co. and of Sweetwater Festive Ale. At 8.5% ABV, it’s a Strong Ale for sure, but it’s far from overpowering. And it shows just enough spice to be seasonal without going nutty. Their video’s fun too!
