Newbies – The “IPA Day” Edition

It’s no surprise that IPAs are the most dominant style in the in the craft beer biz…They’re really what drives much of the public’s attention and as close to an “essential style” as our industry has. With that in mind (and because of today’s global celebration), it’s time for a Newbies IPA Edition…And really, who’s gonna complain about that?

, Newbies – The “IPA Day” EditionA New York State Of Mind (Cooperstown, NY) – Ommegang is once again shining a spotlight on local hop farmers with a “New York State-only release, scheduled to roll out in early July. Brewed in tribute, and to raise awareness for local hop farmers breathing life back into the state’s hop industry, 2016’s Hopstate NY is a 5.6% ABV American Amber Ale brewed with rye, and healthy amount of hops exclusively sourced from Empire State farmers.

Mosaic & Prosaic (Boulder, CO) – Upslope has a new Tap Room Series release that’s perfect for today’s celebration. Hoppy, tropical and resinous and vetted in their tap rooms, Upslope Mosaic IPA is a 7.5% ABV India Pale Ale brewed with snowmelt, malt, Mosaic hops and little more!

, Newbies – The “IPA Day” EditionKicking It Back For A Good Cause (San Leandro, CA) – Drake’s Brewing has a new seasonal release and the proceeds from its sales will be donated to East Bay Regional Parks for trail cleanup and restoration throughout its 65 park system. The flagship beer in the brewery’s Kick Back Program, Drake’s Kick Back IPA is an easy-drinking 4.3% ABV Session IPA, that’s been brewed to be paired with another.

Luponic Distortion Dos (Paso Robles, CA) – We recently received the second release from Firestone Walker’s Luponic Distortion Revolving Hop Series and were invited to compare it up against Luponic Distortion 001 which originated this ever evolving sequence of IPA’s. Luponic Distortion 002 is loaded with and an exotic mashup of hops that have been remixed slightly to deliver an interesting new palate of flavors and aromas. It’s both a continuum of the original beer and a departure – and that’s what makes this ongoing series so intriguing.

, Newbies – The “IPA Day” EditionGet Cooler (Eugene, OR) – Ninkasi is making one of their poplar special releases a year-round and as fans of this brewery were happy they have! Insanely bright and tropical, Ninkasi Hop Cooler is a 7.2% Citrus IPA that’s brewed with Equinox, Simcoe, Amarillo, and of course, Citra hops.

A Classic And Still One Of Their Most Popular (San Diego, CA) – We thought we’d end this segment of our “All-IPA Newbies” with a classic from Ballast Point that helped fuel the movement and remains a force today. A trophy beer that is hopped at five separate stages, Ballast Point Sculpin India Pale is a 7% ABV gold-medal winning IPA that’s spawned a world of imitations, but few peers.
