2020 is ON and American craft brewers are addressing the season with a variety of ambitious new offerings that are fun and cold weather-ready.
Seduction City (Dallas, TX) – Lakewood Brewing has returned a favorite Temptress Stout variation from its acclaimed Seduction Series. Lakewood French Quarter Temptress Imperial Milk Stout is a 9.1% ABV Imperial Stout brewed with lactose sugar and vanilla, that is then aged in bourbon barrels with coffee beans (from Noble Coyote Coffee Roasters) and chicory. “The ability to get locally roasted, super high quality coffee is important to make the best beer possible,” according to Lakewood founder Wim Bens, “and the added step of aging the beans in a bourbon barrel really adds that final little something to the beer.”
Artful Drinking (San Diego, CA) – – Coronado Brewing is debuting its first Art Series release of 2020, a tasteful line of special beers in cans with fan-submitted art. The first in a series of three beers planned for the year, Coronado Tropical Darkroom IPA is a 6.5% ABV Sour India Pale Ale that is dry-hopped with fruit-forward Sabro and Mosaic and sweetened with fresh kiwi purée to counter its gentle tartness. Darkroom’s label features a photo by Derek Delacroix, a San Diego-based photographer who shoots black and white palm trees to support environmentalism.
Founders Becomes Unraveled (Grand Rapids, MI) – It’s not often that Founders Brewing adds something to its year-round portfolio but they have, and we’re interested. The first juicy IPA to be released in cans fromthe Michigan brewery, Founders Unraveled IPA is a 6.6% ABV juicy India Pale Ale that is deftly dry hopped with not just traditional hop pellets but also lupulin powder.
Surfs Up (Kihei, Hawaii) – Get ready for a wave of four different hazy beer releases in 2020 from what Maui Brewing is calling its Surf Series. First to roll in is Maui S-Turns Hazy IPA, a resinous 6.4% ABV India Pale Ale with light pineapple, passionfruit, lychee, and mango notes.
