American craft brewers are addressing late-summer and looking to fall with a full slate of new beers you’re gonna want to chase down this weekend.
Summer Timed (Kalamazoo, MI) – Bell’s has returned a summertime classic, its second most popular beer that’s right behind Two Hearted IPA in sales. Bell’s Oberon Ale is a 5.8% ABV American Wheat Ale that is fermented with Bell’s signature house ale yeast, mixing a spicy hop character with mildly fruity aromas. The addition of wheat malt lends a smooth mouthfeel, making it a perfect warm weather beer.
A “wheat beer” really refers to any beer where a substantial portion of the grain used in brewing is wheat. Generally they’re hazy, citrusy, brews and have fuller mouthfeel. They’re also difficult to brew. And Untappd named Oberon as its highest rated Wheat Ale in 2021.
Terrapin Goes Hawaiian (Athens, GA) – Terrapin Beer has a popular year-round IPA that was inspired the iconic Hawaiian POG juice. Brewed with passionfruit, orange, and guava juice and a sturdy base of white wheat, flaked oats, and flaked wheat, Terrapin Luau Krunkles is a 6.5% ABV Hawaiian India Pale Ale that brings the flavors of the island to your glass.
Sycamore Celebrates Fall Early (Charlotte, NC) – Sycamore Brewing is celebrating fall early with the return of something special. A harmonious blend of house-roasted cold brew coffee, pumpkin pie spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, clove and ginger) and vanilla, Sycamore Pumpkin Latte Blonde is a 5.8% ABV seasonal with a spicy sweetness that is balanced are balanced out by bitter dark chocolate and slight berry notes from the cold brew.
“Pumpkin Latte Blonde is like a pumpkin spice latte in beer form,” says Sycamore Brewing’s co-owner, Sarah Taylor Brigham. “While some may call it basic, this ale is truly unique because we’ve added our own house-roasted cold brew coffee to it. You can really taste the freshness and quality.”
