Yikes, August already and American craft brewers are marking summer’s swift passage with a smart roster of beers that, we promise you, will not disappoint.

Hey Pumpkin (Ipswich, MA) – Voted Best Brewery on Boston’s North Shore for four consecutive years, True North Ale Company is an award-winning operation whose beers have been poured in more than 2,000 bars and restaurants and sold in more than 2,000 stores in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. And they recently returned something that looks to fall.

Brewed with specialty malts for a rich, malt-forward sweetness, then dosed with actual pumpkin, True North Scale Breaker Pumpkin Ale is a 6.3% ABV  award-winning seasonal release, infused with a classic autumn blend of cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, ginger, and clove.

Typically released in late summer to kick off the fall season, Scale Breaker’s distinctive can label artwork was created by local Marblehead, Massachusetts artist Amy Hourihan.

Traditional German Brewing Meets Modern Drinkability ( Bitburg) – Bitburger Brewery is a prominent, family-owned German brewery founded in 1817 by Johann Peter Wallenborn in the town of Bitburg, Germany. Spanning seven generations of family ownership, it remains one of Germany’s largest private breweries. And the brewery has a new addition to its roster for beer lovers who want a gluten-free beer that tastes like beer.

Internationally marketed as Bitburger Helles Lagerbier – glutenfrei) Bitburger Gluten-Reduced Helles Lager is a 5.1% ABV  Pale Lager engineered to deliver authentic beer flavor with the gluten removed. And its secret is in the process Bitburger has developed.

Brewed according to classic standards using water, yeast, barley malt, and proprietary Bitburger Certified Seal Hops, the beer is lagered and matured normally for several weeks. Only after the brewing and cellaring process is complete does the brewery use a specialized, gentle filtration method to extract the gluten.

The end result is a beer that retains the full-bodied, slightly sweet malty backbone and mild herbal hop notes characteristic of a traditional Munich-style Helles, while eliminating the thin body or unusual aftertastes often associated with gluten-free.
