Summer is ON and the beer biz is addressing things with an interesting roster of easy-drinking lagers that will pair brilliantly with the season.
A Summertime Classic (Portland, ME) – Allagash Brewing offers a classic year-round lager, that like all these beers just drinks better in the summer. Specifically engineered to balance crisp drinkability with depth of flavor, Allagash Lager is a 5% ABV Pilsner that combines a New England grown and locally sourced malt base with light notes of honey and citrus twang, offset by a firm, refreshing hop bitterness.
This award-winning lager took home a Gold Medal in the International-Style Pilsner category at the 2025 Great American Beer Festival. It is currently available as part of Allagash’s core lineup. It can be found in standard 12oz and 16oz cans, on draft, or as part of the brewery’s standard Allagash Variety Pack alongside their flagship Allagash White.
Balancing Act (Chico, CA) – Lagers leave little place to hide, so the beer’s balance and mouthfeel matter. And Sierra Nevada recently returned a terrific summer seasonal that succeeds on several levels. Deftly balanced, yet not at the cost of its complexity, Sierra Nevada Summerfest is a 5% ABV American-Style Pilsner which was crafted using Munich, pilsner and two-row pale malts that offset a fragrant and spicy mix of Magnum, Saphir, Tettnang and Tradition hops.

“We’re best known for hop-forward beers like IPAs, but when the weather gets warm, there’s nothing like Summerfest. It’s refreshing and crisp but with the same high-quality you’d expect from any of our beers,” says Brian Grossman, Chief Technical Officer and second-generation brewery owner. “Summerfest is a delicate and complex pilsner inspired by the classic Czech style. It hits the spot on a summer day.”
Drink Like A German (Colorado) – Prost Brewing, a Colorado brewery dedicated to the pursuit of German craft bier perfection, has released a new summer seasonal that was crafted at its new Northglenn brewery. Simultaneously complex and intricate while remaining balanced and smooth, Prost Summer Lager is a 5.8% ABV Munich-style refresher with subtle stone fruit, floral spice, sweet biscuit notes, and an uber-crisp, uber-dry, finish.
“This bier was crafted in our new Northglenn brewery headquarters using a combination of time-honored German methods and state-of-the-art equipment,” said Prost Brewing Co. President David Deline. “All of Prost’s award-winning biergarten-style biers begin with authentic, hand-selected malt, hops, water and yeast, crafted through the patient process of slow lagering.”

Clean Drinking For Cleaner Water (Comstock, MI) – Bell’s Brewery has reintroduced one of its year-round lagers with a slight name alteration, a recipe change and a pledge for cleaner water. Bell’s Lager of the Great Lakes is now Bell’s Lager for the Lakes, a crisp 4.8% ABV American Lager craft to bring awareness, engagement and action behind the need to protect and preserve the availability of clean water.
To celebrate the beer’s launch, Bell’s contributed $25,000 to Alliance for the Great Lakes, a nonpartisan nonprofit organization working across the region to protect the fresh, clean and natural waters of the Great Lakes, in addition to encouraging fans to participate in their Adopt-A-Beach program.
