Alcohol infused sperm looking to get the job done!

In a world of increasing health concerns associated with alcohol consumption, positive news is always welcome…And the possibility that moderate alcohol consumption might heighten male fertility definitely got our attention.

Here’s the deal…

A new study by researchers at the Fondazione IRCCS Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico in Italy has made a positive link between moderate alcohol consumption and improved fertility in men.

The study assembled 323 men, 30% of them drank 8 units or more, 30.3% drank 4-7 units, 30% drank less than 1-3 units per week and 9.6% of them didn’t drink alcohol at all.

The study defines a unit as equating to a 125ml glass of wine, 330ml beer or 30ml spirit, each containing 12.5 g of alcohol.

Dr. Elena Ricci of the Fondazione IRCCS Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico saw the study’s findings to be consistent with other research….

“In Italy, alcohol consumption is common but usually limited to small quantities, and this applies in particular to men referring to our Infertility Clinic. Moderate alcohol intake appears positively associated to semen quality in men. They are counselled to limit but not avoid alcohol.”

While the study’s findings indicated that moderate alcohol intake won’t harm your chances of conceiving, it’s authors warned against the notion that alcohol could boost your fertility.

The research team did point to a Danish study from 2014 which found that drinking 40 units, or two pints a day, reduced sperm count by 33%.

But as the Drinks Business notes “that research also suggested that even modest alcohol consumption – which it defined as more than five units a week – could reduce sperm quality.

And the fact that those findings run 100% counter to this recent study makes us want to throw are hands on the air and drink excessively whether we’re in impregnation mode or not.
