Last November, Innis & Gunn, Scotland’s second largest craft brewery announced plans for a new production in Edinburgh and it’s possible that they’ve found the spot.

Here’s the deal…

Having recently returned from a beer tour to Scotland, we were blown away by hot craft beer is in the northern UK.

The majority of Innis & Gunn’s beers are currently contract brewed in Glasgow at Tennent’s Wellpark Brewery.

They’ve also an innovation and barrel-aging facility in Perth, but the dream has always been to bring everything back to Edinburgh, the city they view as there true home.

And now Edinburgh Live is reporting that the brewery is circling a large plot of land west of Edinburgh at Heriot Watt University’s research campus for a brewery which is expected to have a 400,000 hectoliter capacity.

And Sharp explained that it feels like the brewery finally coming home…

“Our new brewery will be the beating heart of our vibrant craft beer business and I can’t wait to open the doors and show our fans around.”

“There will be a taproom and visitor facilities for people who would like to come for a tour and a beer, and we are planning a line-up of events like beer and food festivals.”

The UK which found its way into craft beer movement some year later than in the states is in the midst of what some a calling a beer renaissance.

And Innis & Gunn’s future home hopes to further that momentum with its new brewery and become a true beer destination.
