Chicago Bears fans who drowned their sorrows in beer after the Bears’ Cody Parkey missed a potential game-winning field goal kick last Sunday are being offered a shot at redemption (and free beer for a year) at the Goose Island compound next weekend…
Here’s the deal….
Last Sunday the Bears fell to the Eagles (15-16) after kicker Cody Parkey’s missed field goal attempt put a brutal end to the season at Soldier Field.
Cody Parkey (once an Eagle himself) failed 43 yards field-goal attempt, hit the left upright and then the crossbar with only 10 seconds remaining, silencing the raucous hometown crowd in the final Wild Card game of the NFL playoffs.
And although the NFL officially changed the missed field goal to a blocked kick by Philadelphia’s Treyvon Hester on Monday, the Bear’s loss was no less devastating.
But the sting of that cruel defeat has inspired Chicago-based Goose Island Beer to offer the Windy City’s deflated fans a chance to relive that fateful moment, make that 43 yard kick at the brewery and at least partially banish the pain of last Sunday’s season-ending defeat with FREE Goose Island Beer for a year.
Right after the failed kick attempt and before it was revealed by the NFL that the kick had actually been blocked, Goose Island took to twitter to challenge the city’s pissed off “armchair Kickers” to see if they could successfully make that kick in the street outside its brewery in Chicago.
A lot of armchair kickers on here are saying that they could hit that field goal, which we find DOUBTFUL. You’re gonna sit there on your throne of potato chips and vape pens and criticize this dude’s athleticism? GET REAL. 2/5
And next Saturday the brewery will be setting up a goal post in front of their compound and challenging all comers to complete the kick that Cody Parkey couldn’t, and in doing so win Goose Island beer for a year!
