Drinking Beer Could Do This To Your Body

, Drinking Beer Could Do This To Your Body

We wish it was all good news…It’s not. But we suspect you already knew that.

Let’s start with some good news….

Drinking Beer May Help Build Beer Density

According to a 2021 study published in Nutrients, drinking beer has been linked to increased bone mineral density for both men and women. One beer a week has been associated with a lower risk of fractures. Clearly drinking too much beer might be associated with an increase in bone fractures for obvious reasons, so there’s that as well.

Beer May Help Prevent Diabetes in Men

According to the study “Male abstainers had a significantly higher risk of developing abnormal glucose regulation … than occasional beer drinkers, suggesting occasional beer consumption may be protective [against diabetes] in men.”

Moderate Drinking May Be Good for the Heart

The researchers state that five of six studies they selected for review identified “a protective effect of moderate alcohol drinking on cardiovascular disease.” Eat This Not That reported that this was true for individuals who regularly drank up to 13.5 ounces of beer per week when compared to abstainers and occasional drinkers.

We get that is a VERY small amount of beer, but good news is good news so we’re running with it.

, Drinking Beer Could Do This To Your BodyBeer May Lower Cholesterol

The researchers called attention to several studies over the 13 year span, which suggested that, thanks to the natural antioxidants found in beer, moderate consumption leads to a rise in good cholesterol (HDL) and a decline in bad cholesterol (LDL).

Now some bad news…

Drinking Beer May Cause Weight Gain

Unfortunately beer can come with considerably more calories than most wines and spirits. You may have noticed that most brewers tend to carry some heft. And not only is it bad for one’s self-image, being overweight opens the door to all kinds of chronic diseases.

Drinking Beer Could Disrupt You Sleep

KSN reports that “Sleep can easily be impaired, even if you consume a light amount of alcohol during the day. A 2018 study published in JMIR Mental Health compared the sleep quality of participants who consumed different amounts of alcohol, and found that even light drinkers (drinking two or fewer servings for men, one or fewer for women) experienced a 9.3% decrease in sleep quality.”

Drinking Beer May Cause Cancer

To be fair this concern is about drinking any kind of alcohol, not just beer, but it’s still a major buzz-kill.

The CDC has linked drinking alcohol with an increased risk of certain types of cancer…cancers of the mouth, throat, larynx, esophagus, colon and rectum, liver, even breast cancer in women. And the American Cancer Society has reported that alcohol consumption accounts for 6% of all cancers and 4% of cancer deaths in the United States.

So yeah, there’s that.
