It’s been more than a year since Dogfish Head Craft Brewery made the big announcement. But the wait is almost over.

Here’s the deal…

Last August Concrete Beach Brewery, a subsidiary of Boston Beer’s A&S Brewing craft brewery incubator division, announced that it would be closing its brewpub located in Miami, FL’s Wynwood District, to make way for Dogfish Head.

A&S also owns Los Angeles-based Angel City Brewery, and Coney Island Brewing which was acquired from Schmaltz Brewery Company in 2013.

In spite of the popularity of Concrete Beach Havana Lager (which will remain in production) the brewery was never the player that Dogfish Head had become. And after Milton, DE-based brewery joined the Boston Beer family in 2019, it was probably became an inevitable transition.

But according to Concrete Beach, which announced that it was closing its taproom last September, the “unprecedented global crisis” brought on by COVID-19 didn’t help either…

“They say all good things must come to an end,” Concrete Beach Brewery posted on its Facebook page. “In this bittersweet symphony, we are sad to announce that the Concrete Beach Brewery Social Hall will remain closed permanently.”

After that it was full speed ahead for Dogfish Head’s move into Southern Florida, and it will open its new Miami outpost to the public on May 21.

Dogfish Head Miami will center on house-brewed beers and scratch made foods, both featuring locally-grown culinary ingredients harvested from South Florida’s year-round diverse crops.

On tap, visitors can expect a rotating lineup of house-brewed exclusives infused with Florida’s native flavors, as well as a selection of Dogfish Head’s nationally-distributed fan favorites.

Here’s a peek of the beers that Dogfish Head Miami will be showcasing soon…

  • Starpucker IPA (6.2%): A hazy IPA with a magnificent mélange of fruity-juicy hop aromas and flavors made with Florida-grown starfruit.
  • Robot Mutiny (7.1%): Continual multi-dry-hopped during fermentation, this hazy IPA has extraordinary fruit and citrus-forward flavors and hop aroma.
  • Madam Roselle (5.2%): A rose-hued sour wheat ale made with Florida-grown passion fruit with notes of mango, strawberry and lychee.
  • Mas Hops (10%): Made with Delaware malt and four types of hop varietals, this Double IPA has intense pine notes and a cascade of tropical aroma.

“I can’t wait for our doors to open, to have the chance to share our tasty ales and eats with beer lovers and foodies in South Florida and to deepen our relationships within the unique Wynwood community for inspiration,” said Sam Calagione, who co-founded Dogfish Head along with his wife Mariah in 1995.

“It’s been a long-time coming, but we are beyond excited to see this project finally come to fruition. Dogfish Head Miami is not only an extension of our brand, but an expansion of our awesome, off-centered family.”
