Considered one of the most impressive breweries in the mid-Atlantic, Aslin Beer has just opened a new 10-barrel brewhouse and taproom in one of Pittsburgh’s most exciting neighborhoods, the Strip District.

Here’s the deal…

The second largest city in Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh is located at the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers which come together at the base of Mount Washington, a towering hill with a mind-blowing view of the city that USA Weekend once rated as one of the most beautiful in America.

With a rich industrial past that attracted several generations of Scots-Irish, German, and Eastern European immigrants, Pittsburgh has always been a beer town. But in 2014 Pittsburgh’s craft beer scene experienced the beginnings of a serious boom that reverberates into today…

Brew Gentlemen opened in the historic steel town of Braddock, twenty minutes east of downtown Pittsburgh and quickly took hold.  Grist House Craft Brewery opened its family-owned and dog-friendly doors that very same month as did Hitchhiker Brewing in Mt. Lebanon.

Andrew Witchy opened Dancing Gnome on October 1, 2016 and Allegheny City Brewing opened its doors on Pittsburgh’s North Side that very same day. And for a while it seemed like there was a new brewery opening in one of Pittsburgh’s neighborhoods or boroughs every few weeks.

Today there are nearly 50 craft breweries online in Allegheny County, (which is Pittsburgh proper and its closer surrounding areas). And with the December 2 opening of a massive 17,000-square-foot brewery and taproom in downtown Pittsburgh, Northern Virginia-based Aslin Beer is hoping to make some major noise in an already crowded field.

So why Pittsburgh?

“The Pittsburgh region has always provided us with a loyal consumer base since we opened in 2015. Kai and I have always wanted to find a way to bring beer closer to our customers in Western PA!” said Aslin co-founder Andrew Kelley. “We’ve long admired the Pittsburgh community and look forward to sharing our beers with guests and to collaborating with some of the country’s best brewers who call Pittsburgh home.”

“This new brewing facility will focus on Aslin Beer Company’s research and development and will be unique to this location,” according to Breweries in PA. “This new facility will also focus on new brewing processes, techniques, & ingredients for Aslin’s IPAs, Sours, Barrel aged stouts and open-fermented lagers.”

“Innovation is a key element of our brand & beer and is something we’ve always taken pride in,” adds Aslin co-founder Kai Leszkowicz. “This facility will allow our brew team to experiment with small batch brews.”
