Pure Project is a San Diego small-batch, ingredient-centric brewery that believes in doing good things and brewing serious beer.

It started when friends, Jesse Pine and Mat Robar were on a backpacking in the Rocky Mountains where hiking conversations can get as random as the powerful environment and one exchange turned to beer.

Pine had recently moved to Costa Rica where he started craft brewery in Manuel Antonio. But after two years of jungle brewing he decided to return to return to San Diego where he rejoined his friend Mat Robar and opened Pure Project in 2016.

From its inception Pure Project has been committed to community and giving back where it can. As a 1% For The Planet member Pure Project donates 1% of all sales (not just profits) to environmental non-profit organizations, whether the brewery is profitable or not.

This from Pure Project…

We make beer.

It’s really not that complicated.

What is complicated however, is the way in which we as humans and Pure Project as a company must live and operate to ensure the existence of our planet in its natural beauty and effectiveness for generations to come.

By becoming a member of 1% For The Planet we were able to answer one of those questions. “How can we as a company help offset the impact we are having on the environment by consuming resources and producing beer?”

We do not view this as a donation, rather simply just the cost of doing business.

In December 2019, Pure Project announced its partnership with Plastic Bank called “Pounds for Pints” where the  committed to preventing over 67,000 pounds of ocean-bound plastic in 2020 and fighting the root cause of plastic pollution by alleviating poverty.

And now Pure Project has upped its commitment to the preservation of our national ecosystems by partnering with the National Forest Foundation, with the mission to bring people together to restore and enhance our National Forests and Grasslands.

“We initially entered into this partnership with the National Forest Foundation earlier this year to help with reforestation efforts in our national forests and decided to plant 10,000 trees in 2020,” said Pure Project co-founder Mat Robar. ”With the increase of unprecedentedly devastating fires we have seen in the last few years, we have decided to step our game up and commit to a goal of planting 150,000+ trees over the next 10 years.”
