Let’s start with the beer: Busch Light Apple may be one of the strangest cult beers we’ve ever covered.

It’s a “Big Beer” special release that somehow spawned legions of fans who hunt it down, hoard it, and take to social media demanding its return.

Keep in mind we’re not talking about  “Pliny the Younger,’ Russian River’s much sought after limited release, this is a mass-market fruit-flavored version of Busch Light that has generated its own fanatical following.

When Anheuser-Busch first launched Busch Light Apple in the summer of 2020, no one expected much. A fruity spin on a straightforward, no-frills beer?

But that may be part of its appeal.

When Anheuser-Busch launched Busch Light Apple back in the summer of 2020, no one expected it to catch fire as it did. Known for its rugged, outdoorsy brand image, Busch Light wasn’t the first name you’d associate with innovation—or apples.

Originally conceived as a limited-time offering, Busch Light Apple caught on quickly. When it returned in 2021, the “apple-forward,” 4.1% ABV lager sold more than one million cases in under nine weeks. That pushed Anheuser-Busch to take the beer nationwide in 2022.

Anheuser-Busch leaned into the action, rolling out intentionally bizarre promotional content—including a “Busch Light Apple Launch Commercial” that parodied over-the-top action movies, complete with dramatic lighting, slow-motion apple drops, and absurd sound effects.

A red and white can of Busch Light Apple beer with condensation is shown against a white background. The can has small apple illustrations and text including "Busch Light Apple" and "Limited Edition."And fans loved that almost as much as the beer.

Social media lit up with tongue-in-cheek reviews, apple-and-beer memes, and DIY taste tests. What started as a gimmick was quickly becoming something else entirely.

A cult classic was born.

The brand even introduced a limited-edition “Apple Suit”—a bright red camouflage hunting outfit—leaning into the beer’s unlikely popularity with outdoorsy drinkers.

And still, demand kept outpacing expectations.

Despite all that momentum, Busch Light Apple was officially discontinued in 2023, sparking widespread disappointment from its loyal fan base. Anheuser-Busch even marked the sendoff with tongue-in-cheek tributes, thanking “the apple” for its service.

Of course, that wasn’t the end of the story.

In 2025, Busch Light Apple returned… and promptly sold out again.

Now, Anheuser-Busch’s most unlikely cult beer is back once more, making a surprise appearance for 2026.

“Last year’s return of Busch Light Apple created a frenzy among fans, and the excitement only kept building when we announced it was coming back again this year,” said Krystyn Stowe, Head of Marketing for the Busch Family & Natural Family at Anheuser-Busch. “Our fans made it clear just how much they missed that crisp, refreshing apple flavor, so bringing it back was an easy decision. We’re excited to give them another chance to enjoy the Busch Light Apple they’ve been asking for.”

And if history tells us anything, it probably won’t be around for long.
