Miller High Life has come up with one of the more entertaining beer promotions of the summer. The brewery is looking for someone to become the very first honorary mayor of Milwaukee’s self-proclaimed “Champagne of Beers” region, and the job comes with plenty of bragging rights, a ceremonial inauguration and, naturally, some free beer.

The title is meant to recognize a Milwaukee resident who best represents the pride, personality and hometown spirit that Miller High Life has long associated with the city where the iconic lager was born.

For more than 50 years, Miller High Life has embraced its famous nickname, “The Champagne of Beers.”

In 2021, that slogan became a little more official when the Milwaukee Common Council unanimously approved a resolution designating the area surrounding the historic Miller Brewery in Miller Valley as the city’s “Champagne of Beers” region. The designation was intended as a lighthearted tribute inspired by France’s famous Champagne region.

“Every great region deserves a great mayor, and we can’t think of anyone better to represent the Champagne of Beers than someone who truly loves Milwaukee and Miller High Life,” said Alison Hanrahan, community affairs manager for Molson Coors. “We’re looking for someone with hometown pride, a great story and the personality to wear the ceremonial crown with confidence.”

According to Miller High Life, applicants will be judged on how well they reflect the brand’s traditions, community spirit and Milwaukee pride through their personal story and connection to both the city and the beer.

The winner will be officially sworn in during an inauguration ceremony on Sept. 19 at the Miller Visitor Center in Miller Valley. While the honorary position lasts for one year, the only official responsibility is participating in the inauguration festivities.

The prize package doesn’t suck either.

The newly crowned mayor will receive two cases of Miller High Life, a dinner for eight at the historic Miller Caves in Milwaukee, two Miller High Life T-shirts, two branded hats and a $2,000 check intended to help offset any taxes associated with accepting the prize.

Applications are now open and are limited to eligible Wisconsin residents living in select ZIP codes. Applicants must be at least 25 years old, and entries must be submitted by Aug. 23 at 11:59 p.m. So if you’ve ever thought your love of Milwaukee and Miller High Life deserved official recognition, you know what to do.
