BeerAdvocate’s Top 50 Most Rated Breweries: 2020

On April 2, Beer Advocate, the widely-used beer ranking and forum website, published a Top 50 ranking that was inspired by the Brewer’s Association’s recent overall brewery ranking which include majors like Anheuser Busch and “crafty” breweries like Goose Island.”

The emphasis of BeerAdvocate’s ranking is the most rated breweries of 2020, “not the highest rated or best breweries of the world based on their beers.”

This list is simply a compilation of breweries around the world that showed the most activity from BeerAdvocate users…so yes it references the “most popular” brewers, but don’t assume “popular” means the best.

The listing also reflects the regional makeup of users. BeerAdvocate was founded by the Todd and Jason in 1996. Todd still resides in the Boston area and this ranking skews more heavily towards US breweries in the Northeast.

It also interesting that only one brewery outside the US made this Top 50 list. And that brewery, Collective Arts, is in Hamilton, Canada, not that far from the US border.
