American Craft Beer Week is returning and it couldn’t come at more important time. We’ve that, “Words to Drink By” and more.

American Craft Beer Week Returns As Beer Biz Slows

For the first time since the national trade organization, the Brewers Association, has been monitoring beer production, the craft beer biz is experiencing negative growth. So its annual celebration of small and independent brewers, American Craft Beer Week (May 13-19), couldn’t come at more important time.

American Craft Beer will be celebrating at our favorite local brewery taprooms all week and we hope you will as well.

Craft beer is an important part of American culture and the economy. 2023 marked an all-time high of 9,761 independent craft breweries, and most Americans live within 10 miles of a craft brewery. In addition, craft brewers collectively produced 23.4 million barrels of beer and directly employed more than 191,000 people last year. Breweries are important community gathering places, acting as an emblem of our thriving country.

“Craft breweries aren’t just businesses; they’re the heartbeat of our communities, fostering connections and enriching our neighborhoods,” said Ann Obenchain, vice president of marketing and communications at the Brewers Association. “With every sip of craft beer, we’re not just tasting quality; we’re investing in the livelihoods of growers, distributors, and brewers. Let’s raise our glasses and support the local gems that make our cities and towns shine.”

Oregon Brewery Named “Small Business of the Year”

For the first time ever, a craft brewery has won the small business of the year award for Oregon, and given that the state is a hotbed for brewers, we’re both happy that a brewery is finally being recognized for this important award, and kinda surprised that it has taken so long.

Grisham, Oregon-based Migration Brewing, was named Oregon’s “2024 Small Business of the Year” by the US Small Business Administration. The brewery will represent the state at an official award ceremony later this month in Washington, DC.

The award was officially be presented during National Small Business Week, according to Yahoo! Finance. And more than 60 small business owners from all 50 states were  recognized and celebrated in the nation’s capital.
