beer, Beer Buzz – A Texas Without Lone Star Beer, Irish Craft Beer Growth Slows And More! The beer biz never sleeps at American Craft Beer. And here’s more of what’s been happening in the beer world, while you were drinking your way towards Thanksgiving.

Last Call For Lone Star Beer? (Austin, TX) – When the news broke last week about the dispute between Pabst and MillerCoors which could end with Pabst being driven out of business, the emphasis was always on the demise of the slacker fav PBR.

But Pabst (which doesn’t own its own brewery and is totally dependent on its contract brewing arrangements with MillerCoors) also holds 19 other iconic American brands including Schlitz, Stroh’s, Old Milwaukee, Colt 45 Malt Liquor and Lone Star Beer, a Texas legend.

Since 2001, all of Pabst’s brands have been contract brewed at Miller breweries, a contract that MillerCoors doesn’t want to renew after 2020 potentially putting an end to Pabst and all its brands. And according to NWF Daily News,  Lone Star Beer and Pearl (Texas’ oldest beer), are currently brewed at the Miller’s facility in Fort Worth, but they both could go down with Pabst Blue Ribbon should MillerCoors prevail in court.

While Irish craft beer grew by a still impressive 10.7% in 2017, that number was a significant reduction form the kind of hyper-growth the industry has seen in recent years. Craft beer in Ireland grew by 31% in 2016 and almost doubled again to 56% in 2017. And at the same time that overall beer consumption in Ireland declined by 2.1%, consumption of Irish craft beer rose by 12.7 %.
