Spring is ON and American craft brewers are addressing the season with a variety of ambitious new offerings that are fun and user-friendly…
Nectar of the Gods (Paso Robles, CA) – Firestone Walker’s pacesetting exploration of New Zealand hops reaches new heights with its latest Propagator Series single-hop release. Available exclusively in the latest “Crafted Thru Hops” IPA mixed pack (which also features three other damned-fine IPAs), Firestone Walker Nectaron IPA is a 5.6% ABV Single-Hop Hazy India Pale Ale with tropical passion fruit and grapefruit notes and a lingering cannabis dankness.
Four years in the making, this new limited release dates back to when Firestone Walker Brewmaster Matt Brynildson first toured several hop farms in the famed Nelson region of New Zealand and happened upon an experimental cultivar that blew him away.
Brynildson returned to New Zealand, the following year where hop farmer Brent McGlashen of MAC Farms remembered Matt’s fondness for the experimental hop, newly named Nectoron, and it now powers Firestone Walker’s latest release.
Cosmic Collaboration (Portland, OR) – Von Ebert and Ecliptic Brewing have joined forces to craft Ecliptic’s third Cosmic Collaboration of 2021. Brewed with real blackberries and Meyer lemons as well as unique Kveik yeast, Ecliptic + Von Ebert Blackberry Meyer Lemon Ale is a 6% ABV springtime refresher bursting with Strata & Mandarina Bavaria hops.
“We’re working with five breweries this year, all from the Pacific Northwest,” says Ecliptic’s Owner and Brewmaster, John Harris. “Sam Pecoraro, and lead brewer, Eric Ebel, have been making some tasty beers, so we wanted to team up. We’re excited to play with Kveik yeast for the first time and punch up the beer with all the real fruit added, too.”
Local To Low-Cal (St Louis, MO) – Schlafly Beer has an interesting new release that’s exclusive to the brewery’s Hoptic Visions Sampler. Crafted to deliver big taste, but thankfully not the calories, Schlafly Low Cal IPA is a 4% ABV India Pale Ale that’s hopped out of its mind, but not loaded down with carbs.
